Spirit Forces in Hebrew Amulets - Part 3

In the previous part we noted the three Angels Sanoi, Sansanoi and Semangelof were sent to restrain and return the demoness Lilit. We are informed that she requested to be left alone, and pledged that wherever she encounters the listed names and images of the three Spirit Intelligences, she would refrain from working her wicked ways. However, whilst the presence of these three Spirit Intelligences are considered vital in the protection of would-be mothers and their offspring against demonic forces, an inordinate number of angelic names were, are often roped in, so to speak, for additional support.
Amongst the latter the angels (Micha’el), (Gavri’el), (Rafa’el), (Auriel [Ori’el]), as well as the angel (Nuri’el), should be acknowledged as the "Supreme Five." Collectively termed (Argaman), an acronym constructed from the initials of the names of these five angels, the unique status of these Spirit Intelligences is highlighted in the teaching regarding the time of the "Redemption," when it is said the five angels of Malchut (Kingdom) will connect the head— (YHVH) and Malchut (ADNY [Adonai]) as (Yahadonahi).

We are further reminded the gematria of Yahadonahi:

is equal to that of the word (Amen):

The "secret" of Amen is said to be its spelling, i.e. comprising the initials of the first and last two of the angels of the five Argaman angels. Considering the great importance of the "Supreme Five," it is no wonder the said acronym should feature so prominently in Hebrew amulets. In this regard, we are informed that the mentioned five Angels, "together with the mnemonic (Argaman) are by far the commonest found in the metallic amulets from the Oriental Hasidic diaspora." [Schrire, T.: Hebrew Amulets, Routledge & Kegan Paul, London 1966.] However, it is worth noting that the first (Ori’el) and the last (Nuri’el) of the five angels, were understood to be different appellatives, each perhaps referring to a different aspect, of the same Spirit Intelligence. Hence there are really four Angelic Princes said to be "the honoured ones, who are appointed over the four camps of the Shekina." Considering the services rendered by these four great angelic "Presences," it is only natural that their names should feature in Hebrew amulets ranging from those affording good fortune to those engendering health, wealth and protection.

Ancient sources tells us the angel (Rafa’el) "is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men," whilst (Micha’el), "the merciful and long-suffering," is "set over the best part of mankind and over chaos." He is the champion of Israel, and slayer of evil. We are told the archangel (Gavri’el) "is set over all the powers," hence it is maintained that this Spirit Intelligence grants one the power to break down walls. Regarding (Ori’el [Uri’el]), we are informed that this angel "is over the world and over Tartarus." It is said the name of this archangel pertains directly to the phrase in Exodus 33:23 reading (Ufanai lo yera’u—"but My face shall not be seen").

An Amulet to Break Evil Spells

It always comes as a surprise to me that the instant one is concentrating on a specific magical application, a query would seem to appear, seemingly out of nowhere, in direct relation to the very topic one is engaged in. In the current instance I am referring to an individual quizzing me on the possible use of amulets to counteract "evil spells." As it is, I was just writing a short insert on this very topic to be included in "The Book of Seals and Amulets." Whilst I have subsequently shared the amulet pertaining to this matter with the mentioned querant, I thought I would share the same here. The item referred to is the following simple Kamea:
This curious amulet, employed to cancel all magical spells of both the written and spoken varieties, is constructed from the three words of Exodus 22:17 [16] reading
Transliteration:
m’chashefah lo t’chayeh
Translation:
"Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live."
Note there is an additional (yod) in the amulet, this being included in the word . The reason for this appears to be the "harmonising" of, as it were, the "incantational order" of the letters comprising:
Line 1. Four sets of letter combinations incorporating three letters each formed from the said biblical verse;
Line 2. The reverse of line 1;
Line 3. Six two letter combinations, arranged in the following manner:
a. the initial of the first word of the verse in question conjoined with the concluding letter of the third word;
b. the second letter of the first word coalesced with the penultimate letter of the third word;
c. the third letter of the first word combined with the additional (yod) in the amulet;
d. the fourth letter of the first word correlated with the second letter of the third word;
e. the concluding letter of the first word coupled with the first letter of the third word;
f. the interchange of the two letters comprising the second word.
Line 4. The reverse of line 3.
In conclusion, the entire construct is hedged in by the well-known conjugation of the Divine Names (YHVH) and (Adonai), i.e. (YAHDVNHY—"Yahadonahi"), the component letters of which having been divided into four groups of two letters respectively located in the four corners of the Kamea. Commencing top right, the entire word can be traced, right-left-down-right, around the construct.
On sharing this amulet on the "Concepts of Kabbalah" Yahoo egroup (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Kabbalahconcepts/), I was queried as to whether the fact that the term m'chashefa (sorceress) in the Biblical verse employed in this Kamea, would pertain to a man casting the "evil spell." In this regard, we might recall that in the overtly "sexist times" when that portion of the Bible was written, it was generally believed that sorcery was mainly practiced by women.
However, in Practical Kabbalah there is no particular interest in whether the verse in question refers to a male or a female, since the actual Hebrew text is considered a powerful incantation against ALL magical spells of the malevolent kind, whether perpetrated by men or women. The fundamental reasoning here is that the Hebrew letters comprising the verse in question, are basically the "bodies," so to speak, of powerful "Spirit Intelligences," these being "channelled" in the mentioned manner in order to obliterate all "baneful psychic influences."
Curiously enough, the amulet in question was tried and tested successfully by a woman who was impacted malevolently by a male "sangoma" (African medicine man). According to the lady in question "the Kamea worked like a dream!"

The Forty-two Letter Name for Health and Healing

Considering a recent query on how the "Forty-two Letter Name" of God might be employed for the purposes of healing and the restoration of health, I thought, whilst there are several related methods doing the rounds, that I would share the one delineated below, since it is particularly effective and relatively easy to execute.
As indicated previously, the seven six-letter divisions of the "Forty-two Letter Name" of God and the "Ana Bechoach" prayer are aligned with the seven lower spheres on the sefirotic tree, as shown below:
In the current instance I wish to focus on the second three-letter subdivision of the seventh portion of the Divine Name in question, i.e. the section of the "Forty-two Letter Name" related to Malchut (Kingdom), which is employed, amongst others, for purposes of health and healing.
As is the case with all these specific sub-divisions of the "Forty-two Letter Name," this portion is conjoined with the Ineffable Name in the following manner:
The unified Name is vocalised (Yitzohayav’t’ha). The main angel associated with is (Gadi’el), some say (Gavri’el). This “Spirit Intelligence” has three assistants, i.e. (Tzadki’el), (Yeho’el), and (Tama’el). The power of this portion of the “Forty-two Letter Name” as well as its associated “Spirit Intelligences,” pertains to increasing the popularity of those who call upon them in the Name of God. In this regard, alignment with these “Spirit Forces” is understood to cause everyone you may encounter to like you, and, what is more, no special purification is required prior to invoking their support.
This is a truly multi-functional portion of the “Forty-Two Letter Name,” since TzoYaT’, Yitzohayav’t’ha, and its affiliated “Spirit Forces,” are called upon for protection in both rural and urban areas, and, curiously enough, they also have the power to halt violent hail storms. Furthermore, anyone suffering from illness will be healed speedily when one adjures the mentioned “Spirit Intelligences” to aid this intention, and when one utters over the afflicted individual. I have employed this Name, its combination with the Ineffable Name, and the associated “Spirit Power” for this very purpose with excellent results. Similarly, TzoYaT’ has the ability to banish malevolent “Spirit Forces” and restore the well-being of an individual who suffers their affliction.
